Terry is Oglala Lakota, United States Airforce Master Sergeant, Retired andBoard Member, Oyάte Woókiye -For the PeopleI was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota to a single mother of three. Growing up he was taught by her the value of hard work and determination, both of which have served me well throughput my life. Terry attended Oglala Community School and graduated in May 1972. After two years at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, he decided to enter the US Air Force in July 1974, where he spent 23 year. Upon his return to Pine Ridge after retirement, he realized that something was missing from the youth on the reservation. He was determined that the respect and pride that he had grown up with had lapsed and wanted to see if he could help restore these values. This was my primary reason for accepting a position with the Oyάte Woókiye. He believes our efforts have made a valuable impact on the youth of the Pine Ridge reservation and will for many years to
I am an experienced skate mom of a 20-year-old daughter. I became interested in skating when she became interested in skating. I’ve spent may hours at skate parks all over the country, watching her and also filming for her. I have seen how skating has helped her through difficult times in her life and has helped develop important skills, such as perseverance and independence. I have been a Wolakota Camp mentor for 3 years and feel honored to be a part of something so powerful. What I like most about being a mentor is seeing the kids experience and learn new skateboarding skills and watching them evolve and improve.
